Do you have a session coming up and you’re feeling a little nervous about how to pose like your inspo board? You’re not alone!

As a Marietta Family Photographer, I know how real the anxiety can be when you book a session then suddenly remember that you will have to pose. It can be a little panic inducing but there’s good news! With a little preparation and openness to learn, anyone can learn how to pose naturally and confidently. Here are my top professional tips on how to conquer posing anxiety before your session.

1. Create a Pinterest Board of poses you love.

This is one of my go to pro tips for clients. A Pinterest board helps you collect your creative ideas, pose ideas and to get a visual representation of the vibes you want for your photo session. Just type in your session type plus the word “poses” or “photos”. For example: “Atlanta Family photos” or “family posing ideas”

Super pro tip: share your board with your photographer before the session. It’ll give the insight into your vision and gives opportunity to plan poses that feel authentic to you and yours.

2. Practice in the mirror or in a video of you’re favorite poses.

Confidence grows with practice! Spend a few moments in front of the mirror trying out poses. Not how small changes like lifting your chin or shifting your weight can make a huge difference!

Don’t want to use a mirror? Try to set up your phone and record yourself. Watching the playback, give yourself some grace and watch how you move and what feels best!

3. Styling matters more than you think

When you love your outfit, posing becomes so much easier. Try on your outfit ahead of time and ask yourself these three questions

1. Is it comfortable?

2. Do I feel confident in it?

3. Does it coordinate well with the others in the photos?

If somethings feels too big, too tight, or just “not it” – swap it! Your clothes should empower you, not distract you! Do you need a little more assistance picking out what exactly looks best on you? My clients say that having wardrobe and styling support takes away half the stress of the session – and I firmly believe them!

4. Talk to your photographer (like a lot

You don’t have to figure this out alone. As a decade long photographer, I’ve guided clients through poses, prompts, and styling tips before and during a session. I know these are the two biggest stress points for my clients, which is exactly why I prepare resources and step by step guidance to help.

If you book a session with me you get the amazing opportunity to get a personalized support in styling, posing, prompts and access to tools that make the entire process simple and enjoyable. Explore my services or go ahead and book your session here.
